That’s all I really want right now! I’m not brand new to playing the oboe. I played my junior year of high school and then picked it up for our community band 1-1/2 years ago. I’m not a ‘bad’ oboe player, but I’m not a great one either! Sometimes I find it exhausting to be an oboe player. This is the first instrument that I have ever picked up and had difficulties playing - the first instrument I’ve been challenged on - maybe that’s why I have such a strong desire to be good at it? I can play oboe, but it’s not always ‘pretty’ and I want it to be pretty all the time, not just some of the time. Sometimes I have a hard time with getting my low notes out because I constantly bite my reed. I think I’m going to have to break down and buy an oboe technique book…it’s probably not a bad idea, anyway. Reeds are another story. I buy 3 or 5 and only 1 works well enough to use. I know I should learn how to make my own, but I’m a hands-on person and need to be shown how to do it - and there are no oboe reed makers around my neck of the woods. I really should buy at least a knife and a plaque so I can adjust the reeds that seem too tough to play…well, these are just some of my frustrations today, that popped in my head as I was trying to practice my oboe in my car on my lunch break…
